Perdido Light Photography: Blog en-us (C) Perdido Light Photography (Perdido Light Photography) Thu, 11 Apr 2024 07:49:00 GMT Thu, 11 Apr 2024 07:49:00 GMT Perdido Light Photography: Blog 80 120 Cara & Jonathan :: Married We headed up to Atlanta this past weekend to photograph a wedding in nearby Acworth.  Cara and Jonathan chose a venue with charm, character, and history…The Conservatory, where the event staff provide a complete package for any event…catering, florals, cakes, bar service, DJ, and more.  Their staff was friendly and fun…they like to dance with the guests.  One of the highlights of the evening was DJ Dre…best DJ I’ve ever seen.  He’s entertaining, interactive, professional, and a really nice guy.

The day started with all the girls getting ready on the top floor of
The Conservatory and all the guys hanging out in the lower level (they got the best deal…it was the coolest spot around).  Cara and Jonathan opted for a first look before the ceremony so the bridesmaids brought Jonathan out to the main floor where he waited for his bride to walk up behind him.  Now, Cara and Jonathan are a particularly fun-loving couple so there weren’t too many serious moments during the day, including the first look when Jonathan took his first opportunity to cut up.

They couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day, along with a group of family and friends who knew how to enjoy a wedding.  With DJ Dre’s help, the dance floor stayed packed all evening.  Guests enjoyed lots of special touches, including a very unique wedding favor…bottles of personalized, homemade wine, courtesy of the bride’s little ol’ winemaker parents.

These are a few select photos of the day to give you the feeling you were there, and help those who were there re-live the day.

Lauren & Mac :: Married This sweet couple came from the same coastal county…he grew up on the island, she was on the mainland.  Their love blossomed in college where each was active with their respective sorority and fraternity.  The first of their friends to marry, they were surrounded by fun-loving family and friends for their island wedding.  Lauren put her personal touch on so many details, but the most memorable detail was her classic beauty and elegance.  It was apparent throughout the day that Mac knew what a lucky guy he is.

Megan & Gordon :: Engaged They met through his fraternity brothers and Gordon knew he couldn’t let Megan get away. It didn’t take long for Megan to be completely sure that Gordon was the one, especially when he flew her to San Francisco for a special romantic trip.  It was on that trip when Gordon proposed.  Without hesitation, Megan and Gordon began planning their wedding and life together.  Throughout our session, they never stopped enjoying each other.  He makes her laugh, she makes him smile.  It’s so easy to work with a couple to produce intimate, romantic photos when their love shines through.

They chose the moss draped site of Wormsloe Plantation to start their session, then moved on to the waterfront bluff at Isle of Hope.  While shooting at the boat lift, a pair of dolphins joined us and showed us what real romance was all about…it’s mating season.

The rain held off for most of the afternoon, though we were pelted with a few drops here and there.  With a few moments of sunlight beaming through the clouds, we were able to capture some warm, dramatic images as Megan and Gordon hardly remembered we were photographing.

What a lucky couple to have found each other.

Lauren & Mac :: Island Engagement Photos We spent a warm and wonderful afternoon working with Lauren and Mac for their engagement session on Jekyll Island.  Mac is a native islander who grew up playing around the marina and making friends with the transients who stopped by on their way through the ICW.  He dropped fishing lines off the pier, frequently helped out in his parent’s restaurant next to the river, and learned to appreciate everything special that Jekyll Island has to offer.  Lauren is Mac’s college sweetheart…and she is exactly what comes to mind when you picture a sweet girl with a big heart.  When we showed up to start the day, Lauren had all of her outfits lined up with accessories and a selection of choices for Mac’s wardrobe…so organized, and yet, so blithe and carefree.  She kept Mac focused, cause we all know how much guys hate to spend time on photo sessions, and knew exactly how to engage his attention so their photos became filled with love and emotion.

With the engagement session complete and realizing what a breeze it is to work with Lauren and Mac, we can’t wait to cover their wedding next spring!

Engagements :: Sweet and Enduring We’re heading out for an island engagement session this weekend and it got me thinking about some of our past couples. The girls are always so excited, planning their wardrobe and makeup. The guys, well, they would rather be doing something else. Once we have them ready to go on location there isn’t a whole lot of directing required…love takes over.

Shae & Trent :: River Wedding This lovely, relaxed couple chose to have their wedding at the groom’s coast home on the river.  The surroundings provided a romantic backdrop for their day of memories and enjoyment with family and friends.

Shae & Trent :: Engaged A coastal couple with lots of style and class.  They wanted their engagement photos to be unique and utilize the early morning, late afternoon light.  I love it when people recognize the value of beautiful light…it worked well here.

Cara & Jonathan ~ Engaged Our recent engagement session with Cara and Jonathan was set along the Sapelo River in beautiful Shellman Bluff, GA.  This couple had been visiting from Atlanta and decided they wanted engagement pictures shot here on the coast.  They’re pretty smart.  Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by so much natural artistry and tranquility?

Amber and Michael We’ve joined the Darien Weddings group recently, which is a business cooperative whose goal is to bring brides to Darien/McIntosh County for their destination wedding.  Part of our early marketing will be an information booth at the Blessing of the Fleet this weekend, April 2.  We staged a bridal shoot to feature some of the area venues that can be included in our promotional photo album.  Amber and Michael had never met before the session, but worked so naturally together you’d think they were an actual bridal couple.  Thanks to two fun and beautiful people.  Also, thanks to Coast Occasions for styling assistance, Doodlebugs Flower Shop for the bouquet and boutonniere, Daughters Vintage for the veil/fascinator, and the venues - Darien River House, Darien Waterfront, and 4M Plantation.

I met up with JoAnn at Darien Waterfront Inn this morning to make some images showcasing her beautiful, inviting bed and breakfast.  The fog was very thick, but enough broke away to allow thin slivers of color through the clouds.  Looking forward to getting the sunset shots in a few days.
